Oh behalf of the AALL Academic Law Libraries Special Interest
Section Committee on Continuing Status and Tenure, I am proud to unveil
our work-in-progress, the Law School Librarian Status web page:
http://www.loyno.edu/~bhuddle/cst/
This web page lists all American law schools and provides a space
for a brief description of the employment status of law school librarians
there - tenure track library faculty, continuing status, contract
employee, etc. We currently only have information for about thirty schools
but hereby request input from everyone else. Besides the type of
employment, we ideally would also like to have links to, or excerpts from,
any library, law school, or university policy manuals or handbooks with
the specific provision(s) regarding law librarian employment status. Our
goal is that this page will serve as a comprehensive resource for anyone
dealing with the issue of librarian status at American law schools. This
web page will eventually be listed on the ALL-SIS web page along with the
other useful resources linked there.
Please take a moment to check your law school library's
information. If it is not listed, please follow the e-mail link at the top
right of the page and give me a brief description of the status of
librarians at your law school. Please include the link to any on-line
policy manual covering law librarian status at your institution, if there
is one. Barring that, a clean copy of the relevant excerpt from such a
manual and permission to digitize and post the excerpt would be helpful
both to us and, eventually, many other academic librarians.
Thank you.
