Re: "Government Ethics" Joke - Attn: Govt. Librarians et al - An Antipodean Viewpoint

Humour deprivation and/or humourectomies (I've spelled both words the
Aussie, rather than the USA way) have always - at least to this writer's
eyes - seemed to be more than a bit of a problem on this List. I've been
very saddened many times by the knee-jerk "flames" I've received, over the
most innocuous and inoffensive attempts on my part to inject a little
humour into a List that - whilst erudite and informative - can often become
deadly dull. In a world so full of dreadful happenings, I firmly believe
that the ability to laugh, smile, enjoy humour and recognise the absurd, is
as vital to healthy survival as are oxygen and water.

It is a sad day to learn so many humorectomies have been performed. No
wonder health care costs have risen higher than a stack of subscription
invoices!

Subject: Re "Government Ethics" Joke - Attn: Govt. Librarians et al

It has been pointed out to me that my joke yesterday re a treatise on
"government ethics" being found at oxymoron.com might be taken as insulting
to government employed librarians. Please rest assured that I don't hold
any
of you personally responsible for (my perceived) ethical shortcomings of
government in general. My views may be somewhat jaundiced from having grown
up in New Jersey, where someone once seriously proposed a constitutional
amendment requiring anyone who won an election to serve a prison term
before
taking office, in order to save time. (This also is a joke. Please, no
angry
e-mails from Trenton.)
At any rate, my apologies to anyone who was personally offended. I really
don't believe every single individual employed in government is ethically
challenged. Honest.
