University Librarians -- Service of Process

Can anyone tell me who receives Service of Process on behalf of a
University or College? Is it the Provost? Is it the President? Does it vary
from state to state (the college in our case is located in Maryland)? Where
do I look to find out? [Calling the University is not an option].

TIA
