Greetings,
The Washington State Supreme Court Minority and Justice Commission in collaboration with the University of Washington Library and Computing
Services and with the services of a graduate student in the Law
Librarianship Program at the University of Washington and an attorney volunteer are attempting to produce an annotated bibliography of racial and ethnic cultures and norms, in an effort to provide insight into the plethora of cultures in our society.
The Mission of the bibliography project is to develop an annotated bibliography of materials to assist judges in enhancing their knowledge of racial and ethnic culture as they exercise judicial discretion and to promote cultural awareness among judges and decision makers in the Washington Courts.
The Goals are to develop a model for obtaining and maintaining an annotated bibliography; to house an annotated bibliography on the Minority and Justice Commission's website for easy access by judges, court personnel, lawyers, and persons who work to promote equal justice; and to promote cultural awareness and discussion among those in the justice system.
As a first step in the development of the bibliography, we are requesting recommendations or submissions of materials listed below.
Bibliography Guidelines: Please note once the submissions are received, it will go through a review process by the project committee and not all submissions may be posted on the Commission web-site.
We are seeking the following materials:
• Books are preferred but materials in other forms are welcome, such as
