New York Law School Mendik Library
Description: New York Law School, a dynamic urban law school
located in the heart of downtown Manhattan, has an opening for a
professional reference librarian. Mendik Library holds a collection of
over 490,000 volumes to support the needs of 52 faculty members and
1500 students in both day and evening divisions. The
Reference/Government Resources Librarian will participate in the
library’s faculty liaison program and work with a team of six librarians to
provide general reference service and legal research instruction to the
law school community. The Government Resources Librarian will have
primary responsibility for managing the U.S. and international documents
collections. Specific duties will include providing reference services to
patrons in using all government resources including paper, microform
and electronic sources; assisting in collection development projects; and
supervising the maintenance of the Library’s microform collections.
Qualifications: Required: M.L.S.; law library reference experience;
experience in searching online information services. Excellent written and
oral communications skills; strong service commitment and evidence of
ability to work well with faculty, students and staff in a variety of
settings are essential. Desired: J.D.; previous legal reference experience
in an academic environment; knowledge of a foreign language and
knowledge of foreign legal systems.
