# public companies required to file

Ladies & Gentlemen:

I have been asked to find the number of public companies required to file with the SEC for the years 2000, 2001, and 2002.

I have tried The Directory of Companies required to file annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The number of companies is contained in the preface of this work, but I have been unable to find this work published past 1999.

I have had no luck finding thi on the web or at the SEC site. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly apreciated.
