Christine:
You might try the English summaries on the Global Legal Information Network
(GLIN). Enter as a "Guest". Select Argentina and the subject of
"Bankruptcy". You can then perhaps know what documents to obtain in Spanish
and get them translated. You can also put it through the rough and dirty
translators on Google or Alta-Vista.

Hello everyone,
I am in desperate need for an English version of a bill which supposedly
passed the Argentine Senate and House last January/February (2002). A
WSJ article from 1/30/02 describes it as follows: "The measure-tacked
onto a bankruptcy bill that passed the Senate last week and is to be
taken up by Congress's lower house this week--would temporarily prohibit
many companies from transferring money abroad, making it impossible for
them to meet foreign-debt payments ...."
We can find secondary sources referring to this bill, but of course, I
need the number of the law, the date it was passed, and full-text of
this provision.
Any ideas? Nothing was found on Lexis, Westlaw, the Global Banking
database recommended by Zimmerman on LLRX. I was able to locate the
Argentine Civil Code (a book) in English at CWRU Law Library here in
town. However, it is only current through January of 2001. WorldCat
only seems to show that edition as well.
It goes without saying that the Argentine Senate's website is not in
English ... unless I missed something.
Any leads appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Christine
