Just had a very nice call from the extremely helpful Gail Loeb at Aspen
- in direct response to my whining on the list. She apologized for the
confusion - for those of you with other Bowne subscriptions taken over
by Aspen, the transition is taking a little longer than they expected,
apparently. Later payments to Bowne aren't in the Aspen system yet.
The added sales tax is, indeed, because Aspen has a corporate presence
here in California that Bowne did not, so they have to charge the tax.
However, in my case, since I already paid my renewal to Bowne, I won't
get hit with it until next year.
It's nice to know that at least some publishers are paying attention to
the lists. It's just that it's a shame we have to attack them in public
to get a quick response. When Gail called, I had just spent 29 minutes
on the phone with Aspen Customer Service getting the same answers. The
whining is a lot less painful for me, if not for them.
