Our library will be transferring about 70,000 volumes over to a remote
storage site sometime this summer (the material will be retrievable) and I
was hoping that those of you that have had this experience can help me
identify material that
are good candidates for such a move. So far my thoughts are as follows:
Ceased Journals/law reviews
Volumes published prior to 1980
All treatise titles that are no longer updated.
All treatises published prior to 1980.
Exception to this rule would be any "classic" title.
All duplicate copies (retain only one copy on site)
Paper editions of congressional and senate hearings and reports
Annuals, Directories, Encyclopedias , etc.: retain only the current
edition in reference and the previous most recent year.
Past years of looseleaf binders (i.e., CCH, PH, RIA, BNA)
Our research team would like to keep our state materials and common law
materials in house. But if some of you have transferred state materials or
the common law materials what have you transferred ? Any other thoughts
would be appreciated.
In addition, since material will be coming from all over the library what
are your thoughts on a good way to get the material organized and ready for
the move. We do plan on hiring a professional mover for the job but
anything we can do to make it easier for them would benefit all. Thanks
for your thoughts.
