starting a new Law Library?
Florida A&M University (FAMU) is re-establishing its College of Law in
Orlando, Florida. The first entering class has arrived in the fall of
2002. Orlando, Florida was selected as the site of Florida's newest law
school of its being one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in
Florida and in the U.S. and its proximity to Tampa and Daytona Beach,
Florida. The Law School is currently housed in an existing facility; of
which the Law Library is on two floors. The permanent facility is
currently being prepared and will be open by 2005.

School. The following position is being sought immediately:
Position - Assistant Law Librarian of Technical Services
Duties- Administer technical service operations of the law library by
the supervision of the Cataloging Librarian and library technicians.
This Librarian is responsible for the bibliographic integrity of the
library's collection; creating original cataloging records and copy
cataloging (including microforms, audio-visual materials, and electronic
sources) and monitoring the quality of the law library's bibliographic
holdings. Duties include assistance in the establishment of the law
library policies and procedures with the Law Librarian and the Assistant
Law Librarian for Public Services. This Librarian also assists in
collection development with professional librarians.
Qualifications - Working knowledge of AACR2, USMARC, and LC
classification required; strong communication skills, cataloging skills
and familiarity with law library acquisitions and an online library
system are necessary. MLS from ALA-accredited institution required;
five years progressive supervisory experience in an academic law library
strongly desired. Strong interpersonal skills, a strong service
orientation, being a self-starter, and ability to work within a team are
essential.
Salary/Compensation - Twelve month, administrative
non-tenure track position. Salary is commensurate with experience;
salary range is $52,000 - $60,000. Competitive benefits package
contains retirement options, including TIAA/CREF, health, dental, and
vision.
