Hi Glenda,

Regarding your need for international information, there are three sets I
thought of, although they may refer you to other sources rather than be the
ultimate places to look:

Thomas H. Reynolds and Arturo A. Flores, Foreign Law: Current Sources of
Codes and Legislation in Jurisdictions of the World. V. I and IA especially
address the countries you're interested in. This source provides several
pages on the legal system of the country and then has a Major Publications
section listing the Major Codifications as well as works for specific
subject areas of the law. I would say some of these sources are in Spanish
and some English (just glancing through this, I see that some say
'translated in...'; and I see some web sites mentioned in this resource,
too.)

Kenneth Robert Redden, Modern Legal Systems Cyclopedia. V. 7 and 7A cover
Central America and the Caribbean seems to give a more detailed account of
the country's legal system and then has a list of resources. I notice that
v. 7A is more general in nature and covers things concepts such as
Organization of American States, Caribbean Basin Economic Program,
Copyright, Human Rights, etc. (Mexico is in V. 1 for North America.)

Martindale Hubbell International Law Digest in the v. called Argentina -
Vietnam contains, for example, Mexico Law Digest.

I think Reynolds and Flores might be available online for a fee.

Subject: Recommendations for International Resources Needed

Good Afternoon, everyone.

I'm hoping that some of you International experts out there can suggest some
materials for me, as I'm a bit out
of my element when it comes to international topics.

I'm actually searching for two different topics. I have one attorney who
has just been put in charge of litigation for all cases in Latin America.
He would like (English) texts on the basics of the legal systems in Latin
America- particularly Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. We have the Juris pub
Doing Business in Brazil, which he is now looking at, and know about the
other Juris publications. I've also suggested we purchase Introduction to
Foreign Legal Systems by Marie-Louise H. Bernal, and
gave him the web address of the Research Guide on Latin America from
Georgetown law school. Any other suggestions?

My second international need is for a secondary source(s) on bank regulatory
aspects of international investments, including information on distressed
equity, debt, real estate, and other assets. Focus is mainly on Asia, but
does not have to be limited to that. I know about the PLI handbook
International Securities Markets 2001 and also International Securities
Regulation: Pacific Rim and International Regulation of Finance & Investment
(both from Oceana).

Can anyone point me to anything else? Are the ones I've already named
widely used and held in good favor?

Thanks for any help you can offer. Two international requests on the same
day. What are the chances?

Thanks again!
