Director of the University of Houston O'Quinn Law Library
The University of Houston Law Center is accepting applications and
nominations for the position of Director of the O'Quinn Law Library. The
Director is part of the Law Center management team and reports directly to
the dean. The successful candidate will be hired to a tenured or
tenure-track appointment on the Law Center faculty as an Assistant
Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor, depending on the level
of experience.
The O'Quinn Law Library serves a student body of over 900 J.D. students and
over 60 L.L.M. students, a full-time faculty of 57, and approximately 60
adjunct professors. The Library houses a collection of over 350,000
volumes and volume equivalents, and is undertaking an extensive acquisition
project to replace the 175,000 volumes lost after Tropical Storm Allison
in 2001. The Library also maintains a rare book room and an increasing
number of digital resources. The facility offers both wired and wireless
connections to patrons.
The Director is responsible for oversight of all O'Quinn Library
operations. These responsibilities include short-and long-range planning,
budgeting, personnel management, facilities maintenance and design,
bibliographic services, collection development, and instructional
technologies (TWEN, Blackboard, etc). The Library team consists of nine
librarians and twelve staff members, all of whom strive to provide strong
research support to all patrons.
Candidates should have a demonstrated record, or demonstrated facility for,
managing teams of professionals and outreach to patrons, along with a
demonstrated record of research in his or her field.
