RE: For NY librarians: Rockefeller Drug Laws

As the name indicates, the laws were championed by former New York's
Governor, Nelson Rockefeller during 1973. The core of the law is mandatory
prison sentences for unlawful possession and sale of controlled substances.
This is "keyed to the weight of the drug involved", and judges are required
to impose a sentense of 15 years to life. I would direct the student to go
to www.drugpolicy.org for further reading on it. This is not a legal advise.

Subject: For NY librarians: Rockefeller Drug Laws

A high school student needs the "Rockefeller Drug Laws." I explained
that they are a collection of laws thought to be "...overly harsh for
certain persons in certain situations."

Are there any nicely packaged websites with good overviews of the
laws. And, of course, her assignment is due tomorrow.

TIA,
Ms. Dale Colston
