Publication date

I have received several E-mails from colleagues asking me when the 2003
edition of the "Legal Information Buyer's Guide & Reference Manual" will
be published. Since many law libraries use it as a budgeting tool,
permit me to explain.

The publication date is dependent upon my ability to collect, collate
and update the text with current prices, and full supplementation costs
for the prior year. This data, particularly the supplementation costs
for the prior year, is generally not completely available until
mid-February. Other editorial work, including formatting, begins in
November and continues through March. This year, the book came out on
June 12, although a mid-May publication date is the norm. The current
2002 edition is, therefore, less than five months into its 12-month life
cycle. Although the book is purchased by a fair number of lawyers
(including those purchased through the ABA), the publication schedule is
designed primarily to serve the needs of law librarians who want
supplementation cost data provided in a timely way. The downside, from
a marketing perspective, is that some might be inclined, as the year
winds down, to think that they should wait to purchase the 2003, even
though it will not appear for 7-8 months,

As always, I am open to your suggestions for additions and improvements
to the book, including your cost-saving tips, recommended new titles,
etc.
