Law Librarian
The Chesterfield County Law Library is an integral part of Chesterfield
County Public Library. Its special focus is to assist the general
public, attorneys, judges, and litigants in obtaining up-to-date legal
information. The Law Library is housed in the General District and
Circuit Court Building. It contains a collection of printed legal
materials and electronic databases.
Chesterfield County Public Library is a dynamic library system dedicated
to excellence in customer service and staff involvement in service,
policy, and procedure development. This library system, consisting of a
Central Library, eight branches, a law library, and outreach services,
serves a population of 271,000 in the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan
area. We are two hours from the Blue Ridge mountains, the Virginia
beaches, and Washington, D.C.
The Law Librarian manages the Law Library and staff, provides direct
legal research services in the Law Library and legal research training
for reference staff throughout the library system. The position is also
responsible for maintaining the Law Library collection and advising the
Collection Management Department on legal purchases, and programming on
legal topics for adults and youth throughout the library system.

Requirements: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
library science program or equivalent combination of training and
experience. Eligibility for certification by the State of Virginia. We
seek a librarian with a strong customer service orientation, excellent
public service and reference skills, excellent management skills,
considerable knowledge of theories and principles of library science;
knowledge and experience in law librarianship; and excellent oral and
written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
