PACER billing seems to be a nightmare for any size firm and for firms using
either one password or multiple. If anyone from PACER is reading this or if
the CRIV people are reading this, changes are badly needed in this system.
Law firms need ONE account with MULTIPLE passwords and MONTHLY, not
quarterly billing. It is very irritating that we cannot call and get a list
of all Passwords & IDs held by members of our firms. Also, downloadable
information is not very well done. It would be nice if it could be
downloaded into Excel. Several people mentioned how much nicer CourtLink or
CourtExpress were.
That said, some people really did think it works fine--at least for their
office. Some commented that it works because their people are very good
about inputting client/matter # s for billing. Others say it works well
because they do not bother to bill clients for it. Some expressed concern
about growth of useage due to ECF.
Now, here is my favorite response:
"If anything causes me to quit my job, it will be the PACER invoice!"

Here is the tally on who does what:
One password-- 14
Library does all searches-- 3
Multiple passwords with one person responsible for invoices - 3
Multiple passwords--each password holder responsible for invoices--6
Responded with comments on PACER but no real information-- 2
