I have been asked by one of our IP attorneys to find a publication
comparable to BNA's 1998 "Product Comparison Manual for Trademark
Users." So far I'm batting zero and could use some help. The manual
has been very useful but BNA has no plans at this time to issue an
updated version and the attorney (understandably) prefers a more current
resource.
The book is a source for trademark practitioners and helps with the
process of determining if a particular mark used to identify certain
goods might be confusingly similar to the same mark or a similar mark
used to identify other goods. It is primarily made up of an
alphabetical list of products which are organized in 4 columns
identifying 1) the most common variations in terminology, 2) all
products with which items in the first column have been compared, 3)
product similarity or dissimilarity, and 4) United States Patent
Quarterly or Official Gazette citation for the case announcing the
decision.
If you know of a publication that might substitute for the BNA text
please contact me. Thank you.
