Two Reference Librarians
        University of New Mexico Law School Library
        UNM Faculty Positions, Non-tenure Track

The Reference Librarian provides in-depth research and reference services to
the faculty and students of the Law School as well as the University, the
legal community, and general public; participates in a rotating reference
schedule including evenings and weekends; performs traditional and
electronic legal research; prepares bibliographies and patron guides;
instructs patrons in traditional and electronic research; participates in
faculty/librarian liaison program and collection development; performs other
special duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

1. Provides research assistance to the Law School faculty and students,
the bar, the bench and public patrons (i.e. answering reference questions,
facilitating patron research, conducting traditional and electronic
searches)

2. Coordinates and supervises faculty research pool staffed by law
students

3. Provides instruction and guidance for Law School faculty and
students on the use of electronic resources including LEXIS, WESTLAW,
Internet, and various CD-ROM products
   
4. Develops tools for patron education such as research guides,
legislative histories, user aids and bibliographies

5. Assists in initiating and assessing goals, procedures, policies, and
manuals for use in the Information Services Department

6. Contributes to the informational base of the Law Library by
maintaining reference and other pertinent statistics, bibliographical
databases and resource files

7. Participates in collection development as requested

8. Participates in a rotating reference schedule including evenings and
weekends

9. Instructs patrons in use of traditional and electronic research
resources

10. Participates in faculty/librarian liaison program as directed

11. Lectures on legal research topics to Law School classes as requested

12. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Required:

1. MLS from ALA accredited library school by appointment start date

2. JD from ABA accredited law school by appointment start date

3. Traditional and electronic legal research skills and experience

Preferred:

1. Law library experience in an academic setting

2. Familiarity with a variety of technologies including CALR, Internet,
CD-ROM, web development and other technological applications in libraries
and legal education.

3. Strong oral/written communication skills

4. Strong public service orientation

5. Ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, students and other
library patrons

6. Ability to work independently & collectively while managing and
coordinating research projects

7. Collegiality

8. Supervisory ability
