This is a last-ditch effort at finding English translations of the most
recent text of these three pieces of legislation. If you can help, I'd
be so grateful!
Chilean Act on the Protection of Personal Data, Law. No. 19.628,
effective August 28, 1999. There's also an amendment, Law. No. 19.812,
which passed yesterday.
Brazilian Bill on the Privacy of Personal Data, Bill No. 61, 1996. I'm
also looking for the status of this bill-- was it ever passed?
I've checked Lexis, Westlaw, Dialog, and the Internet. The Internet
yielded the text of the Chilean law in Spanish and an English
translation of the "pending" legislation. Given my limited Spanish, I
can't tell if there were any changes between the pending and final
versions. I also found a translation of the pending Brazilian
legislation, and found it hadn't been passed as of Sept. 2000. I have
no further information beyond that.
