Thanks to all who responded to my question (below) about generating lists of
new acquisitions. As promised, a summary of the responses:

Three respondents use OCLC products. One uses the CatME (Cataloging Micro
Enhancer) software ( <http://www.oclc.org/catme/>
http://www.oclc.org/catme/), while the others use the Accessions List
service (
<http://www.oclc.org/western/news/apr01/apr01_accessions_list_cts.htm>
http://www.oclc.org/western/news/apr01/apr01_accessions_list_cts.htm). Both
came highly recommended.

One respondent uses Thomson's ProCite software ( <http://www.procite.com/>
http://www.procite.com/), which generates a list similar in look and feel to
our's, generated by the WebSort freeware (
<http://www.library.unlv.edu/free/websort32/>
http://www.library.unlv.edu/free/websort32/).

Four respondents produce lists with their OPAC software, which usually
require some editing and tweaking afterward.

We also generate a report with Innovative as the first step in our process,
but have found that the amount of tweaking involved in producing a usable
list has become substantial. It would appear that there is still no
replacing the human touch at this point in time. The trick is figuring out
how far you can get the software to take you before you have to step in.

Thanks again. If anyone would like the verbatim texts of the responses,
contact me directly.

Subject: New acquisitions

I have a question for those of you who periodically generate lists of new
acquisitions to your libraries. How are people doing this? We are
currently using WebSort, a freeware program available from UNLV Libraries (
<http://www.library.unlv.edu/free/websort32/>
http://www.library.unlv.edu/free/websort32/), but I'm curious to see what
others are up to. Are you assembling these manually, or with software, and
if so, what?

Please respond to me privately, and I'll summarize for the list.

Thank you!
