I. POSITION INFORMATION
TITLE: REFERENCE & BIBLIOGRAPHIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN

STATUS: Senior Administrative & Professional (Law Librarian)
                                                 - twelve month, full-time
position.
SALARY: Salary is negotiable

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is divided between public and technical services and will
have responsibilities in both areas. The principal duties of this position
are: providing sophisticated research and reference service to faculty,
students and other patrons of the Moritz Law Library, serving as part of
the team charged with developing and maintaining the Moritz Law Library=s
web page, participating in providing software training for faculty,
students and staff, preparing research guides and other publications of the
Law Library. The Reference & Bibiliographic Services Librarian will teach
Introduction to Legal Research to first-year law students; lecture on legal
research (traditional and electronic) to various classes within and outside
the College; take part in evaluating, selecting, and providing access to
information resources and serve on Moritz Law Library, Moritz College of
Law and University-wide committees. The Reference & Bibliographic Services
Librarian will also serve as a project specialist in the Technical Services
Department. This will involve participating in planning and implementation
of special projects that may include assessment of collection and
preservation needs and work with bibliographic records to improve access to
library materials including those in specialized formats or subject
areas. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution (or foreign equivalent)
required and JD from ABA accredited institution (or foreign equivalent)
strongly preferred. Candidates with a JD who have enrolled in an ALA
accredited program leading to the MLS (or equivalent) degree will be
considered. Demonstrated experience with searching online legal databases
and Internet resources required. Effective oral and written communications
skills, the ability to work both independently and as a team member, and
the ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis required. Some
law library, teaching and supervisory experience highly desirable.

IV. THE MORITZ LAW LIBRARY

The Moritz Law Library is housed in Drinko Hall on the main campus of The
Ohio State University. Its staff of 8.75 FTE librarians and 10 classified
civil service personnel actively serves the forty-two faculty members and
660 J.D. students of the Moritz College of Law in addition to many students
and faculty members from other departments of the University and the legal
community. The Moritz Law Library's collection consists of approximately
719,000 volumes and equivalents and is particularly strong in the areas
of dispute resolution, health care law, international law and socio-legal
studies. In 1993, the Law Library occupied a substantial new addition
which more than doubled its space and provided the groundwork for a rapid
expansion in the use of automated information systems. The Moritz Law
Library is covered by a wireless network giving OSU law students access to
the Internet from all locations.

The Moritz Law Library shares an Innovative Interfaces integrated system
with the University and Health Sciences Libraries and works extensively
with these libraries on issues of mutual interest. The Moritz Law Library
participates in OhioLINK, a state wide library automation project, which
links Ohio's major institutions of higher education (including eight law
school libraries). The staff of the Moritz Law Library has ample
opportunity to participate at the University and state levels in the
development and evolution of OhioLINK.

The Ohio State University is located in Columbus, the largest city in Ohio
and the state capital. Columbus is a vigorous, growing city which offers a
wide variety of cultural, entertainment, dining and recreational
