John Paul Jones was an admiral (and some claim confidant, in a very broad and licentious sense) for Catherine the Great.

Subject: Americans who acted as Advisors to Foreign Governments
orLeaders

I have an unusual request and I was wondering if anyone off the top of their heads has any examples of American Citizens playing a leading role as a counselor, advisor, or confident to a Foreign Government or it's Leader. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
