AALL's Special Committee on the Future of Law Libraries in the Digital Age
is asking you to take out your crystal ball and look into the future. This
Committee represents all types of law libraries and wants input from other
AALL members for its final report.

It has been said that the only thing constant is change, and that's
certainly true for the law library of the future. But we're left with many
questions: How will the balance of electronic and print resources change?
What roles will law librarians and other staff be asked to play? How will
library services change? Will law libraries go totally virtual, and if they
do, what are the pros and cons of doing so? Are certain types of law
libraries more apt to become virtual than others? Are there standards that
should be developed to assure that information is always accessible, and if
so, what would these standards look like?

The Special Committee has drafted a number of scenarios to spark discussion
and now wants to hear from individuals in all parts of the profession and
all types of law libraries, in order to produce the best possible guidance
for the profession. The scenario drafts and a schedule of the daily topics
are available at: http://www.aallnet.org/committee/scenarios.asp

Join in the discussion of this intriguing topic, beginning May 13 and
running through May 17, 2002. Committee member Margaret Axtmann, Associate
Director for Information Resources, University of St. Thomas Law Library
will moderate this lively discussion.
