Some of you will recall previous postings from me relating to my possible
entitlement to what I then referred to as a "French inheritance", through a
deceased great-aunt of mine named VERA HUBNER. At the time of those postings I
had been given to understand that the deceased estate was situated in France,
and that it was being handled by a genealogical firm in Paris, acting as
agents/consultants to a French firm of lawyers. Subsequent information now
reveals that this was not entirely correct, and the true picture appears to be
that my great-aunt died in Illinois, leaving property both in the USA and in
France (where she had, at some stage of her life, resided). I am also now
informed that some sort of legal proceedings are currently taking place "before
an American court" in relation to the obtaining of "an order permitting the
distribution of the estate".
I at present know not whether the estate is an intestate or testate one, but
strongly suspect that it is an intestate one.
In any event, what I am trying *very* hard to find out are answers to the
following questions:-
1. Assuming that the deceased died in Milford,Iroquois County,Illinois,in or
about December
1986,what is the most likely court in that State wherein any legal
proceedings
relating to that deceased's estate would be pending ?
2. How best might I go about finding out whether there are, in fact, any such
proceedings currently pending in that court ?
3. Is there a suitable website (eg Illinois Bar Association or suchlike) where
I might
be able to send an e-mail which would be viewed by most legal practitioners
in the
State - asking whether any of them knows *anything* at all of this deceased
estate ?
4. Is there a suitable *hard copy* practitioner's journal, wherein I might be
able
to place an appropriate advertisement ?
I am convinced that, if I can only ascertain the identity of the USA attorneys
who are handling this estate, I will be able to make real progress with the
matter. Regrettably, the French genealogical firm is denying me *ANY*
information whatsoever, until such time as I sign a ridiculous rip-off
"disclosure" contract !! If you saw the contract, you'd understand why no
legally trained and sane person would sign it in a million years !!!
Many many thanks in advance,
