DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the Law Librarian, the Associate Law
Librarian participates in all aspects of library administration including
budget administration, facilities planning, personnel management and
technology matters, and assists in long-range planning for the library. The
Associate Law Librarian has broad management responsibility for Public
Services operations including reference and research services, instruction
and training, and access services (including circulation and reserves,
document delivery services, and stack maintenance). The Associate Law
Librarian directly or indirectly supervises 11 full and part-time
librarians, 6 library assistants, and numerous part-time student employees.
Responsibilities include the development, implementation and monitoring of
public services programs and policies, and the organization, allocation and
supervision of personnel and fiscal resources in the department. When
necessary, the Associate Law Librarian coordinates the activities of the
Technical Services and Public Services Departments. Over time, the
Associate Law Librarian will be expected to assume additional library-wide
responsibilities. The Associate Law Librarian represents the Law Library on
various Law School and Library System committees and at various meetings and
other functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
J.D. and M.L.S. degrees (or the equivalent). Substantial, successful
academic law library experience. Demonstrated skills in planning, problem
solving, personnel and the development of services, including the
development of computer applications for legal research and public services
programs. Demonstrated competence in delivering sophisticated reference
services in a demanding academic library setting. Firm commitment to law
librarianship and to a high level of service to faculty and students.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, initiative, flexibility
and leadership qualities required.
