FDC Reports on Lexis

Good morning,

Has anyone signed up for the new database Lexis is supposed to roll out in October? Our rep notified me this week that Elsevier has decided to remove the FDC Reports (Pink Sheet, Green Sheet, Gray Sheet, Tan Sheet, Rose Sheet) and EMBASE from the Lexis databases and create a separate subscription databases for these products. They will no longer be searchable in Lexis-Nexis as of October 1.

We have a flat rate contract with Lexis, and spend anywhere from 5 to 10% of that rate in these databases. If they're removed, and we don't renegotiate our contract, we will have to make up that amount plus pay the additional subscription fee.

The kicker is that we also pay FDC Reports 1000's of dollars for multiple copies of print subscriptions every year! My library partner and firm administrator are outraged, as am I.

Our rep has been as accomodating as possible, saying that he also just found out about this change. I guess Lexis doesn't think many people will care about these databases unless you have a Food and Drug practice. He also told me that this is an exclusive agreement with Lexis, however, WestLaw also has these databases on their system. Are they going to be removed? (I would tell Lexis to forget it, and just use the WestLaw database, but Lexis has the materials back to the early 1980's whereas WestLaw only has them back to 1997.)

I'm also forwarding this to CRIV, in the hopes that they will look into the matter also.

Why does this stuff always happen right before or right after a vacation???
