Course Description:
Developing others and helping people to perform at optimal levels is one
of the most
important roles of supervisors, managers, and leaders in libraries and
information service
agencies. Using specific skills and behaviors, the manager/coach can
help to create a
high-performing workplace.
Participants will learn the key principles and techniques associated
with effective coaching.
After this course, participants will know:
* what coaching is;
* specific techniques, theories, and tools to use in the
coaching process;
* how to develop high performers;
* how to confront poor performers and how to coach them to
higher levels of performance; and
* the key coaching behaviors necessary for effective coaching.
Target Audience:
This course is targeted to individuals who supervise the work of others,
which may include
department heads, team leaders, mentors, staff development and personnel
officers.

This three-week course will begin Monday, October 15, 2001 and ends
