Subject: AALL Salary Survey
Ms. Gervais,
In the 1999 Biennial Salary Survey results on AALLNET Members Only Section,
you will find fourteen tables in Section C providing salary data for law
librarians in firm libraries. Reference librarians are included in the
non-administrative (non-supervisory) position code: Readers Services
Librarians, RSL. You may need to check several tables and compare salaries
to obtain an accurate estimate of salaries for the position that interests
you.
Table 24 provides the average salary for all positions, including RSLs, in
firm libraries; Table 25 provides the average salaries by region and
position, Table 29 provides the average salaries by position and years of
experience, and Table 33 by position and size of firm - usually an important
variable.
Please note that in Table 25 some positions may not appear for some regions.
This is because there were not a sufficient number of responses - a minimum
of six are required - for that position to be included in the published
results.
In 2001 for the first time we are also publishing a new section with
Organization Profiles that will include library expenditures for electronic
and hard copy information, and ratios of staff sizes compared to number of
attorneys served in the law firm.
Please keep in mind that we will be issuing the 2001 data in July and
posting it to AALLNET Members Only Section as soon as possible. Paper copies
will also be available for $150 for non-members who don't have access to the
Members Only Section and $95 for members who may want a paper copy for their
library collections.
I hope you find this information helpful.

Subject: AALL Salary Survey
I do not have access to the print edition of this and AALL are not returning
my calls. If someone knows or has thoughtful comments in which Position
listed in this survey a non-supervisory Reference Librarian in a Private Law
firm in the Midwest would fit, I would appreciate it greatly. I assume
that the position of Reference Librarian would be dominate in a survey like
this and yet I don't see it listed or can't tell by the online survey where
it might fall. I appreciate any and all information and comments Thanks,
Ruth Gervais
