PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN

The Louisiana State University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana invites
applications for the position of Public Services Librarian. The Public
Services Librarian will join our Law Library at a time of unprecedented
growth and exciting challenges. An $11.6 million law building (including
the law library) renovation is underway. Professor Herb Cihak, Director of
the Law Library, is interested in recruiting energetic librarians who are
committed to outstanding service, to join an excellent library team to move
the LSU Law Center Library forward.

Qualifications: Requires a M.L.S. and a J.D. from ALA and ABA accredited
institutions. Four years of law library experience and an ability to work
in a collaborative team environment is required. Extensive knowledge of
legal materials and methodology including traditional resources, commercial
online services, and internet sources is a must. Prior collection
development experience is needed along with demonstrated computer
competency. Must be service-oriented with the ability to communicate
effectively with faculty, students and alumni. Excellent interpersonal and
oral and written communication skills are required along with demonstrated
leadership and organizational skills.

Duties: Plans, develops and implements programs to meet the library needs
of all customers. Assists in training public service team members and
coordinates staffing to cover hours of library operation. Recommends
acquisitions of equipment and material needed for public service
operations. Collects and maintains statistics for inclusion in library
reports. Functions as liaison to ensure good library relations with
faculty and students. Develops and reviews reference procedures and
coordinates all reference and research service functions. Coordinates,
prepares and presents library exhibits and orientation lectures and tours
in conjunction with other public service personnel. Provides computer
assisted legal research assistance to faculty and students. As a member of
the reference team, staffs the reference desk occasionally in the night and
weekend. Assists the Director of the Law Library with all public services
and is in charge of the law library in the director's absence.

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience. A comprehensive benefits package also is included. This
position reports to the Director of the Law Library and carries library
rank and status.
