Access Services/Reference Librarian, University of Missouri-Columbia Law
Library, Columbia, Missouri.
DESCRIPTION: Manages and coordinates all Access Services operations,
including circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserve. Supervises two FTE
support staff positions and several student employees. Interacts daily with
law faculty, law students, and other users regarding library services and
policies and works closely with the building coordinator on patron safety,
building security, and access issues. Primary duties include documenting,
implementing and enforcing access services policies and procedures;
coordinating the opening and closing of the library; and scheduling
circulation desk staff. Provides expertise in the application of the
Innovative Interfaces' circulation module, Docutek electronic reserves
system, and other automated systems to Access Services functions.
Participates in providing reference (including some evening/weekend hours),
instructional, and faculty liaison services.
The Access Services/Reference Librarian reports to the Director of the Law
Library, assists the Associate Director with ADA access issues, and works
closely with the other librarians as part of the library management team.
The University of Missouri-Columbia Law Library serves a faculty of
approximately forty and a student body of about 540. The Law Library staff
includes seven librarians and 8.2 FTE support staff who work in a
collaborative, team-oriented environment. The collection numbers over
320,000 volumes. Information on the Law Library and the School of Law is

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS (or equivalent) from ALA-accredited institution and JD
from ABA-accredited institution required. A minimum of three years of
directly relevant law library experience may substitute for the JD.
Required experience and skills: Skills and temperament necessary for
promoting and maintaining excellent customer relations. Demonstrated
commitment to providing high quality service in a diverse environment.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to
function effectively as a team player within the organization. Excellent
legal research skills, using both print and electronic sources. Commitment
to continuing professional education and development.
Desirable experience and skills: academic law library experience; experience
with Innovative Interfaces, especially the circulation module
(character-based and Millenium); experience with Ariel and CLIO software;
knowledgeable about word processing, spreadsheets, web editors; supervisory
experience; teaching ability.
SALARY: commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of
