Federal and State Web Locators

        Dear Colleagues:

The library of the Chicago-Kent College of Law is considering the
fate of the Federal Web Locator (FWL) and the State Web Locator (SWL), and
we would like to know what you think.

We realize that many libraries continue to link to both the FWL and
the SWL, and that for many practitioners, faculty, and librarians, these are
the links of choice. We also recognize, however, that the Web has evolved a
great deal since the original project was undertaken by the Center for
Internet Law and Policy (CILP) at Villanova in 1996. Since the creation of
the CILP Web site by Dean Henry Perritt, Ken Mortensen, and Lori Hallman,
the Web has increasingly become home to both state and federal government
information.

We think that - perhaps - the time has come to stop supporting FWL
and SWL. because other Web resources have made the Locators redundant.
However, no decision has been made and we would very much like to have the
benefit of your opinion. Please contact me with your comments. Many thanks,

Keith Ann Stiverson
