Cornell University is located in scenic Ithaca on a hill above Cayuga Lake
in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The town and university
offer a unique cosmopolitan and international atmosphere in a beautiful
natural setting of waterfalls, gorges, and lakes. The Law School has 550
J.D. students, 50 international LL.M. students, 33 full-time faculty, and
is the home of the Legal Information Institute. The Law Library houses
over 630,000 volumes and accesses and disseminates much legal information
through its award-winning Web site. A challenging environment, which
promotes the use of new technologies, combines with a tradition of
excellent service. Eight professional librarians and fifteen support staff
work closely with the Law School and with the University Library.

Responsibilities: The Reference Librarian is a member of the Public
Services team and provides extensive reference and research services,
primarily to the law school and university communities. Service to faculty
is a priority, with an active liaison program. The Reference Librarian is
an instructor in a variety of courses and workshops, including Legal
Methods course, Advanced Legal Research seminar, LL.M. orientation, and
topical training sessions. Responsibilities include outreach through
publications and exhibits, work with law journal staffs and faculty
research assistants, creation of online and print research guides, active
participation in collection development, and collaboration in web
activities. Regular evening and periodic weekend reference hours. Cornell
is a leader in legal information resources online, with opportunities for
innovative teaching and research development. Professional development
activities highly encouraged.

Qualifications: Required. M.L.S. or equivalent graduate degree; J.D. from
ABA accredited school; strong service orientation; knowledge of legal
research strategies; proficiency in online searching; experience with
current information technologies; excellent written and oral communication
and interpersonal skills; Ability to work independently, as well as a team
member. Preferred. 1_3 years relevant experience; teaching experience;
foreign language skills.
