Re: Librarian Image Update

My VCR is on the fritz, so I had not been able to tape the show, but I
really wondered what "professional" functions a Las Vegas showgirl could do
in a library. After all, even storytelling in the Children's Rooms is not
exclusive to librarians. Many librarians do the storytelling, but there
are also storytellers, either professionals or volunteers who do that. The
professional tasks of researching the collection or outside the collection,
collection evaluation, acquisition decisions, original cataloging, etc.
would not be things a librarian would entrust to a showgirl, even for a
day. Isn't it too bad she thought the book truck pushing was beneath her,
or too difficult for her.

Hello fellow information professionals out there in cyberspace,

Just thought I would say, since no one else has to my knowledge,
something about the dreaded
librarian/Vegas showgirl experiment on whatever schlock "journal" show
that was. I saw the first installment, and , gawd , the librarian, with
her honey blond tresses and farmer's daughter gee whiz good looks made
the showgirl look like a villain from Star Trek. Score one for the MLIS
crowd. Then, the fabulous Mula (or whatever her name) was gets to shelve
books at the Bellevue, WA (King County) public library and complains
that she has no stagehands to push her book carts and seems to be a tad
bedeviled by the ol' Dewey decimal system. Two hits for our team. But,
by now I'm wondering what the hell is the big fuss? She could have been
a truck driver or an alligator wrestler, all she's doing is shelving
books? What's the point? By the time they got the library chick in
harem gear getting ready to warm up for Sigfried and Roy I went looking
over to Judge Judy for some real entertainment.

Am I messed up?

Love and Rockets,
