Appointment of Margaret Maes Axtmann as Associate
Director for Information Resources at the University
of St. Thomas School of Law
The University of St. Thomas School of Law is extremely pleased to
announce the appointment of Margaret Maes Axtmann as the Associate Director
for Information Resources. Ms. Axtmann is currently the Assistant Director
for Collections and Technical Services at the University of Minnesota Law
Library, and she will begin her work at St. Thomas in April 2001. In her
new position, Ms. Axtmann will concentrate on building the collection of
electronic, print, and microform resources for a new library and School of
Law. The first class will arrive in August 2001.
Ms. Axtmann is a distinguished librarian with a career spanning
twenty-five years of professional library experience. Ms. Axtmann is the
current Past President of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL).
Her previous professional positions prior to the University of Minnesota
were at Cornell University, the National Center for State Courts, and Hindry
& Meyer. Ms. Axtmann is an expert in a wide range of areas including
technical services and collection development issues as well as strategic
planning, library administration and library technology. She has published
articles and made numerous presentations and is the author of the 1996 Price
Index for Legal Publications.
Ms. Axtmann's professional activities include service as President,
Vice President/President-Elect and Executive Board Member of AALL and as
chair of the Technical Services and Online Bibliographic Services Special
Interest Sections and eight different AALL committees. Ms. Axtmann has also
been a strong contributor to the activities of the American Library
Association, the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries, the Minnesota
Library Association, the Association of Law Libraries of Upstate New York,
and the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries.
She is the recipient of the Renee D. Chapman Memorial Award for Outstanding
Contributions in Technical Services Law Librarianship (awarded by AALL
TS-SIS) and the Law Librarianship Award for Outstanding Service (MALL).
The University of St. Thomas is fortunate to have an individual of
great talent and dedication to the profession joining its new staff.
