Donna, in the case of an unsolicited shipment, you are under no obligation
to return the material. My suggestion is that in these cases you send a
letter to the publisher saying just that. Sample letters are at CRIV's web
site at <http://www.aallnet.org/committee/criv>.

Subject: Aspen rant
Yesterday I received an Aspen set, Mergers & Acquisitions and Buyouts. I had
already rec'd my standing order for this title and braced myself for a call
to phone hell for a return label. A closer examination of the invoice
revealed yet another account number. After canceling this invoice,
requesting a return label and closing that account (which I was told could
take 6 months) I asked the nice lady what the particular notation on the
invoice meant. It read "Sales REP override: 356". She politely explained
this is where the Aspen sales dept. decides to send out a book for you to
review. "Without my permission," I exclaimed!"Yes," she said, "but we give
you a label to return it at no cost to you".
Well needless to say I was livid. Still am. Another straw on a one person
library. Well, I guess I can always quit this job and work for Aspen's Sales
Dept. Just think of it - you get a list of all customers and a box of new
push pins to pick out your next victim. Then you spend your day making up
new account numbers to send those sets Aspen is dumping this quarter. The
power!
by the way this is my humble and heated opinion not necessarily that of my
employer...and so on...
