Mild/Nostalgic Rant About Stupid West Tricks

Yesterday I had lunch with some old librarian chums, and we got around to
discussing the good old days when there were real lawyer editors at West and
everything West did was perfection. One of us who is particularly
knowledgeable about the inner goings-on at West piped up and asserted that
there really is no West anymore, that it was more of a takeover than an
acquisition, that it's all Thomson people in Eagan & St. Paul, and that they
haven't a clue how to run the place. I think she's right. Case in point:

With the latest volume of the California Reports 4th series, we here in
California all got a couple of "paste-over Crack-and-Peel inserts" to
correct some errors in the printing of a much earlier volume of California
Appellate Reports 4th. I cracked, I peeled, and when I attempted to paste
the corrections over the text in the book, the inserts were 1/4 inch too
small on all sides. They were utterly inadequate to cover the wrongful
text, and I had to cut some patches out of the remaining crack-and-peel
material to finish the job. It ain't pretty. But, at least it isnt' as bad
as the time West sent me the entire Colorado Code, yes, all 8 boxes worth,
instead of just the pocket parts for the two volumes of Title 7 of the
Colorado Code that we do own :-)

Come on, West, er, Thomson, try a little harder.
