RE: A common menace

This seems to be my day for contributing ...

I spoke with my LLP rep Monday, and he said he would track our accounts and
assist us however he could. He said they're changing over to Bender's
computer system soon and he called to discuss our options for handling
everything this year. (Thanks, Jerry!)

Based on our discussion, this switchover may be less disruptive than other
vendor changes we have endured (and ultimately survived) in the past 5
years.

Let's keep our collective fingers crossed!

My advice: rely on your rep.

Subject: A common menace

Take another look at that December 2000 notice of consolidated billings for
Lexis Publishing-acquired companies and you'll see near the bottom a
provision imposing late fees on untimely payments as of February 1, 2001.
Around here, late payments are not generally the fault of the library, and I
have restisted paying these in the past. If the new Lexis policy goes
unchallenged by libraraies, other vendors are sure to quickly follow, making
our working lives much more complicated, annoying and expensive.

Any good ideas or strategies that have worked for others in the past would
make for interesting reading for the whole list.
