A Call for Nominations: The O.James Werner Award for Distinguished
Service to Persons with Disabilities
Deadline: March 30, 2001
About the Award: Awarded triennially at the SCCLL Annual Meeting, the
O.James Werner Award honors a member who has made a significant
contribution to either serving directly or arranging for services to be
provided to persons with disabilities or for distinctive service by a
person with a disability.
Among the criteria to be considered are the following: Membership in
the State, Court & County SIS of AALL; Contributions to the professional
literature about serving persons with disabilities; Recognition by
members of the legal or governmental community the candidate serves;
Significant outreach efforts to increase the awareness of the needs of
those with disabilities so that they may better access legal
information; Significant service directly to persons with disabilities
to improve their access to legal information.
The award was inspired by the career, scholarship and personal character
of the late Jim Werner, former San Diego County Law Library Director - a
gifted librarian, prolific writer and active participant in the State,
Court & County Law Libraries SIS.
How to Nominate: In making your nomination, please indicate the
nominee's full name and address, current and past employment, and a
narrative statement as to why the nominee should receive the award.
Supporting documentation such as citations or copies of publications of
the nominee is encouraged. Please also include your name, address,
telephone number and email address.
Nominations and a statement of justification should be submitted no
later than March 30, 2001 to Anne C. Peters, Director of Development,
Social Law Library, 1200 Courthouse, Pemberton Square, Boston, MA
02108-1792. Note that nominations may also be submitted via email to
apeters@socialaw.com.
The Awards Committee is comprised of David Badertscher, New York Supreme
Court Criminal Branch Law Library; Pamela Gregory, Circuit Court for
Prince George's County Law Library; Karen M. Moss, U.S. Court of Appeals
1st Circuit Library; Anne C. Peters (Committee Chair), Social Law
Library; and JessicaRehbaum, Wyoming State Law Library.
