Charley is used for girls here in the States. I think it is usually
spelled with an "ie." Anyway, I think it was the late 70s when Revlon
marketed a women's perfume called "Charlie." They had an ad campaign
featuring some well-known model--I think--and the refrain of the ad was:
"And they call her, Charlie."
Perhaps more than you wanted to know.
