Apologies for the delay in summarizing. Here goes:
>From the responses received, it appears that Couch is preferred in
firms/corp. that don't have a large insurance practice. Firms that do have
both sets. One complaint is the size, cost and slow speed of revisions,
which both titles are doing now. An interesting comment from a former ins.
co. law dept. librarian was that according to a Lexis search done a few
years ago, Appleman was more heavily cited for Life/Health, and Couch for
Property/Casualty. Another comment was that both sets were cancelled in
print since they are now owned by West, and the attys. go online. Another
comment was that Appleman is more "scholarly". Finally, a suggestion was to
try to obtain a former series of either when buying the new edition, as the
cross-referencing between the series is abysmal. Hope this helps others
trying to decide what to do.
