Dina--

I think this is what you are seeking:

They won't let me blow the whistle,
They won't let me ring the bell,
but let the darn thing jump the track,
        and guess who catches hell!

I found it at http://www.crosswinds.net/~petebennett/oct97gaz.htmby using
Google with the following search: "guess who catches hell" poem .

I remember hearing it when I was a contact (service) rep for the RRB before
I went to library school. No idea who wrote it, but if I had to take a wild
guess I'd say Ogden Nash (if it were written in the 20th Century).

Subject: a work-related request ... really!

I have searched and searched for the answer to this question,
with no luck so far.

So, now I'm turning to you for help. I've been asked to find an
old humorous "poem" that describes a person who works on
train, and ends something like this:

And I don't get to to ring the bell.
But if this train jumps the tracks,
        Guess who catches Hell?

I know it's not much to go on, but I do remember having seen
the verse before. I'm surprised it hasn't reappeared as one of
those eternal messages passed around the Internet ... too
old-fashioned, I guess.

If anyone can help me find the full version, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance!
