ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN, ROSS-BLAKLEY LAW LIBRARY, ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY.
The Acquisitions Librarian reports directly to the Head of Technical
Services. Manages all aspects of investigating, ordering, receipt, and
payment of invoices for all library acquisitions in all formats. Assists in
selection and collection development processes. After training, may
contribute some hours to reference desk. Supervises .5 FTE classified
staff. Full time, continuation track position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Responsible for coordinating and maintaining the library's
collection development and retention policies, including incorporation of
changes. Under the direction of the Director, recommends monographic
selections based on library collection development policy and
recommendations of faculty and faculty liaisons. Responsible for all
investigation and pre-order searching of potential acquisitions, new and out
of print. Responsible for gift routines. Works with the Cataloging
Assistant to order materials and resolve difficult vendor billing problems.
Handles rush or special orders. Investigates problems with existing stacks
collection. Primary liaison with vendor sales departments. Assists the Head
of Technical Services in analyzing and managing budget for monographs,
serials, electronic subscriptions and other resources as requested. Assists
the Head of Technical Services in gathering statistics and preparing budget
projections as requested. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.L.S. from an ALA accredited institution. Will
accept applications from candidates being granted MLS by June 1, 2000.
Verification of completion of MLS from granting institution will be required
prior to offer to candidate. Demonstrated knowledge of book publishing and
collection development issues.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated knowledge of legal publishing and
budgetary practices. Demonstrated experience with Innovative Interfaces
Inc, or similar integrated library system.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Appointment will be at the Assistant Librarian rank and
is full time, continuation track. Salary: $36,000 minimum, depending upon
qualifications and experience. The John J. Ross-William C. Blakley Law
Library has a collection of over 350,000 volumes and a staff of 7.5
professional librarians and 13 classified staff members. Arizona State
