You have to figure out what your average volume count is
per linear foot. You can take some samples to figure this.
(Ours, per a volume count in 1997, is 5.6.) Then, if your shelves are
the standard 35-36" (3 feet), you simple have to count the shelves that
have books on them, noting or estimating as you count, three or two or one
feet
per shelf actually filled with books. You can actually do this fairly
quickly and even more quickly if someone is helping you. Then you get
into addition and multiplication.
