ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN
The United States Courts Library in Los Angeles has an immediate opening
for an Assistant Branch Librarian. The position offers an interesting and challenging
opportunity to participate in reorganizing the collections of a library serving one of
the largest districts in the federal judiciary.
Representative Duties
Catalog and classify library materials; plan and execute catalog conversion
project; administer and maintain online catalog. Assist with acquisitions and collection
development. Manage technical services operations and collection maintenance. Oversight
and guidance of technical assistants. Share some reference responsibilities. Perform
administrative tasks and other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: M.L.S. degree from ALA-accredited institution or equivalent
credentials. Thorough knowledge of original and copy cataloging, MARC standards, AACR2, and LC
Classification and Subject Headings. Experience in acquisitions and technical services.
Demonstrated initiative and responsibility, organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as member of a team. Effective verbal and
written communication skills. Strong service orientation and ability to work with
variety of people at all levels. Desirable: Experience with automated library cataloging,
acquisitions, and serials management systems. Experience with standard word processing,
spreadsheets, and database management applications to support library activities. Supervisory
experience. Knowledge of legal and general information materials and ability to provide reference
service using print and electronic resources. Law library experience.
Work Parameters
Full-time position. Proposed starting salary $41,596 - $50,736,
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
