Colleagues,

On behalf of the 2000 AALL/LEXIS Call for Papers Committee, I am pleased
to announce the following individuals have been selected for awards in
this years competition:

Beatrice A. Tice, a student at the University of Washington was selected
in the Student Division for her paper:

Too Many Jobs, Too Few Job Seekers? A Study of Law Librarianship Job
Data Samples, 1989-1999.

Deanna Barmakian, a Reference Librarian at Harvard Law School was
selected in the the New Division for her paper:

Better Search Engines for Law.

Please join us at the AALL Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, on Tuesday,
July 18, 2000 at 1:45 pm to hear the selected papers presented. This is
program H-1. In addition, to the presentation of these well written and
thought provoking papers by the authors, Kathy Carrick of Case Western
Law School and John Nann of Boston College Law School will participate
on the program as commentators. Kathy will comment on the Beatrice Tice
paper. John will comment on the Deanna Barmakian paper. I will serve as
moderator.

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to urge your attendance at the
Program. Scholarship should be an essential part of any vibrant
profession and we think it is particularly important that our membership
support those authors who are taking the time to write on behalf of our
profession.

The Committee would also like to encourage more of you to write for the
Competition. More scholarship is needed and will help keep Law
Librarianship strong.

On behalf of our Association, we would like to thank LEXIS for their
generosity in providing a $750 cash award for each author. In addition,
the selected papers have been sent onto Frank Houdek at Law Library
Journal for consideration for publication.

Please let me know if you have any questions or require any additional
information. Thanks.

Michael
