Qualifications: JD (ABA-accredited), or MLS (ALA-accredited) or
related advanced degree. Significant experience with computer systems
in an educational institution or a law-related environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of PC applications and operating systems in a
complex networked environment. Experience configuring and maintaining
a major network operating system. Candidates with experience in
Windows NT servers are preferred. In addition to technical
competence, the director must possess an ability to communicate with
others effectively in settings such as presentations to the faculty,
students and members of bar associations. Must possess a willingness
to serve the needs of others in an educational setting.
Description: The director's primary duty is to manage and maintain the
law school's computer systems. The director's additional duties
include the following: (1) coordinating the development, planning, and
procurement of educational resources and technologies for the law
school; (2) consulting with law faculty and law librarians about the
use of and training for technology applications in the classroom; (3)
planning and coordinating the use of technology in the law school
administrative offices; (4) designing and integrating the web into the
services of Admissions and Financial Aid and Career and Alumni
Services, and into the teaching needs of the faculty and the law
librarians; (5) under the general direction of the law library
director, supervising the full-time network technician and student
assistants; (6) acting as liaison to the Mercer University main campus
technology department.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Mercer Law Library serves approximately 400 law students and 30 law
faculty. This position is part of a library staff of six librarians
and eight support staff. The Law School is part of a dynamic
university with degree programs in medicine, pharmacy, engineering,
business, education and theology. The University has over 7000
students on its Macon and Atlanta campuses. Mercer Law School is
located in a beautifully restored historic district in downtown Macon,
which is a city of 150,000 known for its antebellum mansions,
cottages, churches, and interesting museums. Macon's moderate climate
