QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have both a J.D. (from an
ABA-accredited law school) and a master's degree (from an
ALA-accredited library school) and demonstrate progressively
responsible experience in academic law library administration.
Required skills include the ability to develop and manage the full
range of library resources and services and the ability to communicate
and work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, students,
and other library patrons. Candidates also should demonstrate
outstanding knowledge of the research and educational needs of a
diverse faculty and student body; commitment to the law library as an
essential resource for meeting teaching and scholarship needs;
enthusiasm for the integration of technology in providing library and
teaching services; understanding of, and interest in, technological
advances; and a proven record of creative work and leadership in
academic law librarianship.

DESCRIPTION: The Director of the Law Library reports to the Dean of
the Law School and is responsible for: delivering Law School and Law
Library information resources to the academic and legal community;
administering library operations, planning, and budgeting; leading and
developing professional law librarians and classified staff in a
collegial working environment; developing the Law Library's
collection; overseeing Law School and Law Library technology and
computer resources; supporting classroom and academic computing;
providing leadership of the Law Library's legal research program,
which includes a first-year legal research course and advanced legal
research courses; coordinating legal research instruction with the
legal writing faculty; and teaching legal research classes.

The Furman Smith Law Library serves approximately 400 law students and
30 law faculty, as well as the local bar. Six professional librarians
and eight classified staff report to the Director. The Law School is
part of a dynamic university with degree programs in medicine,
pharmacy, engineering, business, education, and theology. The
University has over 7,000 students on its Macon and Atlanta campuses.
Mercer Law School is located in a beautifully restored historic
district in downtown Macon, which is a city of 150,000 known for its
antebellum mansions, cottages, churches, and interesting museums.
Macon's moderate climate and moderate cost of living, as well as its
proximity to Atlanta, make it a desirable place to live. Additional

BENEFITS: This position is a 12-month administrative appointment, with
either tenure-track or comparable faculty status depending upon the
qualifications, experience, and interest of the successful candidate.
The salary will be commensurate with the Director's experience and
qualifications.
