Thanks for all who responded to my inquiry regarding the future of wexis
proprietary software. The votes are in and the consensus is clear: the web
software offered by West, in particular, Web3 or New westlaw.com leaves
little to love in its present incarnation. It is demanding in terms of
computer resources and buggy. The Web2 version or just plain old
westlaw.com was much better received, but not quite as beloved as the
proprietary software. Unauthoritative buzz is the proprietary software will
continue to be supported for the next few years.

Lexis.com was perceived to be an improvement over the proprietary software,
although the proprietary software has its adherents, who like it mostly
because of its speed.

In general, law students are being trained on the web versions only.

Most of you believe proprietary is on its way out although it is hard to
predict precisely when.

My personal feeling is that web versions will allow us to build our own
portals and to group other internet information on these portals. However,
life was faster with the proprietary versions! The portal I built can be
found at http://www.sandiego.courts.ca.gov/library/favorite.htm

Thank you so much for your opinions. They have informed my research and are
gold.
