Hello,
I would love some ideas.
We need to convert our Admins based mainframe opac and circulation system to
a Windows NT environment. The original one was designed in-house (by
non-library programmers!), and bears no resemblance to MARC or standard Circ
packages.
We have some 20,000 volumes in a circulating collection in the public county
law library, and 9 Chambers libraries, plus some 30 small office collections
we need to keep track of. We have about 500 books in circulation at one
time.
All items are barcoded, as are the patrons! Well, I mean their library
cards, not the patrons.
We have looked at Athena and Library Soft, but can not tell who well these
will work with typical law books having 900 volumes, rather than the school
type collections for which they were designed.
Of course, we do not have a huge amount of money, and we are pretty much our
own tech support.
Any ideas on an "out of the box" OPAC, Circulation, web linkable, easy to
use OPAC and circulation programs would be great. Or I would just like to
know what comparable libraries are using.
Thanks, Lori
