Reference Librarian for Foreign and International Law
Harvard Law School Library

Harvard Law School Library has an opening for a reference librarian for
foreign and international law. This is a unique opportunity for a
dedicated individual with a strong public services orientation to work with
one of the world's best collections and staff in international, foreign and
comparative law. The international and foreign law reference department
consists of three librarians and a part time reference assistant.

Duties include reference and research support service to students, faculty,
and visiting scholars. The students at Harvard Law School include over 150
LLM and SJD students who are mostly from other countries as well as 1650 JD
students. The Library has an active faculty liaison program and the
librarian will be expected to develop and maintain reference services with
an increasing number of faculty specializing in international and
comparative law. In addition, the reference department is actively engaged
in instructional activities, both in traditional classroom settings and
through written materials and the internet.

Requirements for the successful candidate include an ALA accredited MLS; a
JD or strong law library experience; effective interpersonal and
communication skills in a wide range of settings and with people from
diverse backgrounds; the ability to work in a highly demanding environment;
a strong service orientation; working knowledge of at least one foreign
language; and substantial database and internet searching
expertise. Highly desirable qualifications include a reading knowledge of
French and German, familiarity with international affairs and world
history, and experience in working with people from other cultures.

Salary is commensurate with experience. There is a substantial benefits
package.
